Queensbury Academy makes a Good impression when inspectors call

CST’s Queensbury Academy has been judged Good in all areas following its latest Ofsted inspection.

The inspection report, published this week, says the school’s steady performance owes much to Principal Olly Button’s ‘resolute leadership and unwavering commitment to high standards’. It adds: “Despite some considerable challenges, the Principal has led with strength and the school is well organised and ambitious. He has secured a learning community based on shared values and a commitment that the school will provide the best education and pathways to further study.”

During their two-day visit on 13-14 September, inspectors noted a culture of high expectations across the school community and a determination among staff to secure the best outcomes for all students. “Staff are very committed to improving the life chances of all pupils and raising their aspirations. Senior leaders and governors are keen for pupils to be successful.”

This aspirational attitude translates into consistently good teaching that seeks to stretch students to realise their abilities: “Leaders have worked hard to ensure that teachers ask challenging questions and are ambitious for their classes. Pupils are confident during the lessons and enjoy their learning,” the report says. In the Sixth Form: “Students have high aspirations and all go on to university or further training.”

Disadvantaged students are well supported to make good progress, and the school demonstrates a strong duty of care to the safeguarding and wellbeing of all learners, Ofsted observes. “Pupils are safe and feel safe. The school is a harmonious community where respect and the Queensbury values are upheld by all.”

Commenting on the report, Olly Button said: “We were very pleased to be graded as Good in each category and Good overall, with a recognition from the inspection team that certain aspects of our school were not far from being graded Outstanding. This means we are well placed to be graded Outstanding at our next inspection. Thanks to all our staff, students and parents for their hard work and support.”

Andy Yarrow, CST Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted that Queensbury Academy has once again secured a good Ofsted judgement, recognizing the school’s high standards and commitment to continuous improvement. As a Trust, we are proud of the school’s achievements and fully supportive if their ambition to become one of the highest performing schools in the country.”
