Subject Specialists at CfBT Schools Trust
Supporting our secondary schools in core areas
CST’s Subject Specialists are a team of leading practitioners in English, maths and science with a real passion for teaching and learning.
Reporting to our Director of Secondary Academies, the team support core departments throughout the Trust for three days a week, which are peripatetic, and teach for two days in their base school.
Support and guidance is determined in partnership with each school, relative to the individual school’s needs, and can include:
- coaching programmes
- teacher programmes to improves teaching practice holistically
- deep departmental reviews
- curriculum and moderation support
- other forms of personalised joint professional development.
Through a coaching-led approach, staff are encouraged to take a lead on their own professional growth - whether their department is vulnerable or outstanding.
The team also work closely with Heads of Department and Senior Leaders to provide support for subject specialist development. They chair subject meetings and support teachers throughout the Trust with planning, delivery, assessment and moderation to provide a network of support.
The annual Secondary Conference provides an excellent opportunity for teachers to engage in subject specific professional workshops and ongoing professional dialogue.
