We are looking for a talented individual to fill a vacant position as Trustee.

Anthem is one of the most well-established schools trusts in the country. For more than a decade we have been running a group of state-funded, non-selective schools in the East Midlands, London and the Thames Valley. We are proud of our work in supporting thousands of children and young people to achieve great things through our schools.

We are looking for a talented individual to fill a vacant position as Trustee. Candidates with a passion for education and strong experience in leading teams, as well as a sound knowledge of governance with relevant board experience, are encouraged to apply. Board meetings are held during the day in multiple locations across the Trust’s footprint.

About Anthem

Anthem Schools Trust is an education charity that runs 11 primary and five secondary schools across the East Midlands, London and the Thames Valley. The Trust serves around 8,500 pupils, has 950 employees, and a budget of £55 million.

Our vision is that by working together, we will create ambitious and successful schools in which every child thrives. 

All schools are Ofsted rated Good or Outstanding, except for two which are classed as Requires Improvement.

Plans for the future

Anthem has ambitious plans for the future. The key challenges for the board over the next 12-24 months are:

  1. Quality of education - raising standards in all schools for all groups of pupils and ensuring the curriculum is broad and balanced, ambitious and challenging.

  2. Developing people - develop well-motivated and high-performing staff at all levels.

  3. Strategic growth - further develop the Anthem culture and expand the network of schools whilst maximising resources available for all schools.

Role description

Primarily we are looking for a Trustee who has a passion for education and alignment with our vision and values. We would welcome applicants from both the broad education sector but also those with a business background. As well as attending Full Board meetings six times a year the successful candidate would join one of the Trust’s four Committees: Education, Finance, Audit and People. Committee membership would be agreed with the Chair depending on the individual's experience and personal interest. The Committees meet between two and six times a year.

Person specification

Every Trustee is expected to abide by the Trust’s code of conduct and the seven principles of public life set out by Lord Nolan: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

In the interests of safeguarding, all Trustee appointments will be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.
